Sightings and Occurances Page #2
Here are just a few more of the sightings which we talk about on the Ghost Walk. To get the full account of these sightings you will have to go on the Calico Ghost Walk.
The Corral
Next to Calico Woodworks is where an old corral and barn used to be. It is known that in the 1800's there used to be barn dances on Saturday nights in the barn. Voices of crowds have been heard in the night celebrating at this location. Later in Calico's history, a town hall was built in this location. On Saturday nights Calico had roller skating (believe it or not) in this building. We also have reports of these types of sounds coming from this area.
The Board Walk
On the board walk next to the Doll House, many times Tumbleweed Harris, the last Marshal of Calico is seen or heard walking up and down the board walk. A young girl, 4 years of age, was walking with her father up the street, during one of our ghost walks, holding his hand. When she came to this part of the board walk, she looked to the right and started waving at something on the boardwalk. Her father asked her," Honey, who are you waving at?" She waved for a few more seconds and then stopped. The little girl said, "never mind Daddy, we can go now." The father asked again, "but honey, who were you waving at?" The little girl answered her father and said, "There was a big man with a white beard waving at me, but he's gone now, so let's go." This is an accurate description of what old Tumbleweed Harris used to look like and where he used to tell the old tales of Calico with children all around.
Hanks Hotel
Hanks Hotel has several sightings and occurrences of that will amaze you and also send you a chill. The sightings range from inside the hotel to the surrounding area. Even the brave have a hard time going inside Hanks Hotel after dark. This is where things really do go bump in the night and boards creak sending a chill throughout your body. When I first came to Calico, I was nicely told I could spend the night in Hanks Hotel. Nobody told me of its history or its.................. activity. Needless to say, I lasted about five minutes and said, Im out of here". I spent the rest of the night in the campground in section "A" with the 82 other people camping there, and had a wonderful night's sleep.
The Old School House
This is an area where only young people (usually under 18 years old and) have had sightings of a little girl about 11 or 12 years old smiling through the window of the school house. Sometimes, she even leans out of the first window and waves with a smile. Several of the school teachers have been spotted both inside and outside the school house. One small child still runs about outside the school house and likes to hug visitors legs, or pinch their ankles. Sometimes he even runs in his hand over your head from the back of your neck to the front of your head. Regularly we have the adults break down crying at the flag pole saying they sense so much sorrow.
